The research work in the Zhao lab is mainly focused on the interdisciplinary area of supramolecular chemistry and organometallic chemistry. We endeavor to establish general synthetic strategies to achieve controllable synthesis (nuclearity number and geometry control) of multinuclear organometallic clusters (MOCs) and nanoclusters (MONCs) by virtue of the comprehensive research methods in supramolecular and organometallic chemistry. Based on the comprehension of carbon-polymetal multi-centered bonding and metal-metal interactions by spectroscopic and theoretical analysis, the MOCs and MONCs are employed to reproduce the detailed catalytic processes on bulk metal and metal nanoparticles. In addition, we try to discover novel properties of MOCs and MONCs and implement their practical application in biological and material sciences.
